New laptop, new life

It's been a while but I'm finally living in a new city! My college education started eleven days ago and I've settled in, into my new apartment which I share with another student and also, temporarily, his brother (as in, we've got separate rooms but share kitchen and bathroom). I ordered a laptop to use for studies and work and it arrived yesterday. A word of advice: You might think a laptop is small and that you can take your bike to get it. Think again. ;)
It turned out the package was almost as tall as my bike and kinda wide too, which made it very difficult to transport. After walking 25% of the road home trying to lead my bike and keep the package from falling off it, I discovered that it was possible to put it over the bicycle handlebar and the kinda-small-basket I had on the front, all as long as I grabbed the large plastic bag with my hands and kept holding it with a tight grip while I was also holding the handlebar. Tricky tricky, but we all made it home in one piece. The laptop I bought is a MSI GS70 2PE-something. It's 17" so unfortunatley I think it would be very hard to use on the trains here sine the laptop is too big.. But we'll see. I don't plan on taking the train any time soon anyways.

Today we had out first seminar, but other than that, we've mostly been playing board games for these past two weeks. No, seriously. I'm studying digital games and this class is an introduction to that, to learn us how to think and analyze games.

By the way, it still echoes in my apartment of 32 square meters, due to lack of furniture (I only have my bed, computer station, chest of drawers, tv-bench and two chairs, inluding my gaming one) so I'm going to order a sofa bed next year (when I can afford one) and also a coffee table. This laptop set me back a lot financially so it's probably gonna be a couple of months or so before i can really afford to buy anything. But hey, who needs furniture when you've got a brand-new gaming laptop? :)

Long time no see

It's been quite a while since I wrote anything in this blog and I could blame it on a busy summer, but that would not be entirely true. So let's sum it up real quick:

Last time I was active was during the last part of April. In May I "graduated" from my one-year-education with top grades and moved back to my former city for the summer. During July (and in August for sure), I found out that I got accepted to one of the eleven educations I applied to. Unfortunatley I didn't get my first choice of game programming, or my second choice of game graphics, but will now instead study "digital games" for three years and earn my "Degree of Bachelor of Science, with a Main field of study in Media Technology". Not a 100% game programming education, but I can still use it to become a game developer, which is my goal.  I've got a new apartment but can't move in until September 1, which also happens to be the very same day my education starts, so moving across the country (I will move even further away from my home town this year) and unpack all the furniture and start the education all in the same day will be a bit tricky.

From time to time I've had a lot to do this summer, but for the past few weeks it's actually been a lot of gaming since most of the more "serious" stuff has already been taken care of. My brother showed me a game named "Banished", which I had never heard of before. According to it's own wiki page, it's a "city-building strategy game for PC", which is a fair description. Think Age of Empires, but without the war part. You start out with a small settlement and from there you can build pastures, orchards, forest huts, hunting huts, gathering huts, houses, blacksmiths, mines, hospitals, etc.. You get the picture. Transform your settlement into a thriving metropolis but make sure to have a way to survive the plague/winter/ fire or other disaster that may strike your settlement. When you've reached your goal with the city/village/continent there's a bunch of achievements for you to get if you've ran out of ideas with your map. I think it's a really fun game and I've probably spent a lot more time on that game alone than I should (sorry, League of Legends). I have actually only played LoL a handful of times this summer, even though I was thinking of starting a serious 5v5 team in May. Guess I haven't felt like playing it as much as I pictured.

Well that's basically my life summed up, from May until now. I have 1½ weeks left before the move and I think I'm going to spend that on hanging out with friends, playing some games, maybe squeeze in a little more blogging and, of course, do the final packing. Most of my stuff are still in boxes and I pretty much just have to pack kitchen stuff, clothes, and my computer so that shouldn't take too long. Actually I'm half-way through that too.

Until next time!

School break almost over

Tomorrow will be my last day on the school break and I haven't really accomplished much this week. I handed in my application for the fall a couple of days ago and I REALLY hope I will get in to at least one of the educations I choosed. I focused on game development, with programming as my first priority and game design as my second. I will probably know in a couple of months if any of them accepted me.
I will spend the day tomorrow preparing for school and possibly fit some gaming in there somewhere.

Oh, I almost forgot.. I got my first pentakill on LoL two days ago.. Unfortunately it was a bot game, so it doesn't really count.. Next goal: Getting penta on PvP! :)

Bloglovin'

You can now find this blog at Bloglovin'!

Busy day, busy week

Well, technically I had a slow morning, watching "2 Broke girls" and checking my websites, but tomorrow is the final day to hand in applications for the educations that will start in the fall, so that is what I am going to do this evening. I also have some minor things that needs to be done, and I haven't yet decided in which order to take them on. I have a lot on my plate right now but hey, I'm still on school break! :)

Thursday

And as usual, I have math until lunch. Tomorrow at noon, school ends and we will have one week off. Can't wait! I don't really have any plans, I just really need a break! I'm going to take a few days off, then I have a lot of studying to do.

Wordpress

Today we're working with wordpress in our virtual Lubuntu machines. Last time we did that, I found out that I apparently already had a wordpress blog! 30 seconds ago I got a message on it, wishing me happy anniversary since I registered it one year ago. Who knew!? I'm thinking about updating that site and run it in swedish, but since I already have this blog, I'm not sure if I wan't to spend more time on that. I'll make a few posts tho and time will tell what happens. If you wan't to take a look at my page, you can find it HERE.

Another short weekend

Just like two weeks ago, I had to be in school on a saturday. Granted, another type of studying, but studying none the less. I went to a school to take a total of five tests that kept me busy from 8.30 am-4.30 p.m.
You are given 55 minutes to complete each test and I really don't think that's enough time. Some questions I was just guessing without reading them properly, because there wasn't enough time to complete the test (there are A,B,C,D,E boxes and you mark one of them to answer the question).

These tests can increase your chance of getting in to a university, but I don't really think I did that well this time.. Each time you complete these tests, the results are valid for five years and then they're considered expired. I took the test one time before, but that was five years ago and since those results expire in the fall, when I plan to study again, I had to take the test again. Well, you don't have to, but it helps. I think my last test went much better, but hopefully it's not too bad.

Today I started my morning with some photoshop, now I'm in IT class (web design) and will have that until the end of the day. I think I'll be gaming tonight. Not sure what tho.. I feel like I wanna build something, so perhaps some Sims 3? Or Minecraft? Or some LoL, feel like playing that too.

Broken refrigerator

Had a great surprise today.. The small fridge in our dorm broke.. Probably yesterday, because all the food was spoiled today.. Luckilly, all of my food (except one package) is in the larger fridge in the dorm so I didn't really lose anything.. But oh my good, the smell! Or stench rather.. It was NOT fun cleaning that up, had to hang my upper body out the window several times in order to survive in there, haha! We cleaned the rest of the dorm too since we already took all the cleaning stuff out and we had to do it soon anyways..

Now it's time for me to get back to writing my essay and then hit the gym and hopefully most of the stench in the dorm will be gone when I get back...

Photoshop Poster

Just got my poster back that I did in photoshop a couple of weeks ago. No idea what to do with it.. Put it on a wall at home, maybe..
Right now I'm so tired, had a weird night, sleep-wise.. Was laying in bed, but with my head at the wrong end of the bed.. It was three a.m. and suddenly I woke up (and it was 8.10), because my dorm mate was knocking  on my door, asking if I was joining for breakfast. I'm lucky he did that, because I didn't set any alarm...

Like every monday, today I only have computer classes and my day ends at 2.25 p.m. I have a presentation due tomorrow, so I will probably work on that tonight. Other than that, no plans for today...

School on a saturday

...Or almost, anyways. We've had "open house" today at the school and some studensts were required to be there. Since I'm in the IT class, it's not very hard to guess what we were showing. That's right - Computers with stuff on them, that we made.
Me moved like five or so computers into the gymnastics hall and four of them were showing some of the websites that we built. The fifth computer was showing the Windows '98 system, entitled "This is what computers looked like last millennium".  Fun, fun..
We also moved some of our Photoshop posters there and all in all, everything went fine.
The school served us cinnamon rolls, hot beverages and lemonade and even though I was in school on a saturday, it could've been worse.

Today was also the first day in quite a while I dared doing some work out, and I think it's safe to start working out on a regular basis now. Finally! :)

I have absolutely nothing to do tonight.. I started watching a movie, but paused it.. Might finish it later. Right now I'm updating my LoL and might play some in a bit.. I have missed my main champion.. :P

Malware-monday

Today is all about malware, at least in school. First we had a test in Photoshop class, which I think went pretty well. :) And right now we are discussing malware, and presenting the work we did last week when we each got two programs to review, programs of antivirus and maleware removal..

For me it was McAfee's Stinger and Bitdefender Rescue CD. One easy and one a tad more complex.

This week, my schedule in school will be a little different than usual: only 1½ day with regular scheme. The rest of the week we're catching up individually in whatever class we're behind. I even have school this saturday, since we're having open house.

Almost time for lunch, which does not consist of anything good today, so I'm having the vegetarian alternative.

Math

At the moment I am in math class but today is just going to be one of those days when you don't get much done.. At least not in this class.. After lunch I've got history, which will be my last class for the day and then I don't really know what to do. There are all these things I wan't to do vs the things I have to do. Maybe a little bit of both? Anyways, time to get on with my procrastination.. Have a great day! :)

Finally weekend!

Finally time time to relax and enjoy that... Or so I thought. I have a feeling this will be a very slow and uninteresting weekend.. Last night I was watching the movie "War of the worlds" with some friens, and that was probably the only nice thing about the entire day.. I was so tired when I was invited there and almost didn't go, and it wasn't until halfway through the movie that the tiredness started to fade away..
When the movie was over, we watched some Youtube clips and I decided to play some computer games when I got home. I didn't. I felt so tired, because I rarely sleep, so I just turned off my computer and went straight to bed. It wasn't even three in the morning yet.

I woke up this morning and I can't really say I felt well rested. My entire body was hurting, including my face, haha. I've had problems with my knees for a few days now, but today it was really my back that was killing me the most. So this will be a slow day. Started off with some gaming, then breakfast and watching  the new series I started to follow. It's called "Under the dome" and it's about a town which suddenly finds itself under a mysterious dome that dropped down over the entire town. They don't know how it got there and they can't get out. Kinda interesting.

I suspect the rest of my evening will consist of gaming and watching series and movies. But hey, some weekends are supposed to be lazy. :)

Almost home

I'm currently on the bus, on my way home. In about 15 minutes it's time to get off and wait for the train to take me the last part. After that, a 30 min walk and then: FINALLY HOME! How I've missed home and by home, I mean my computer :p The first thing I'm gonna do when I get home is to install a game I bought two days ago. And hopefully play a bit before bedtime, if I'm not too tired.. Ah well, I'll probably just play anyways.. :)

More boxes

I thought I had many boxes before, but now I have even more.. I've been packing all day and I'm still not done..  Hopefully I'll be done tomorrow, cause I really don't wanna go back here and pack stuff again..

Yesterday was more fun tho; I went shopping and met up with a friend. And yes, there was even some Magic involved (and buying some new cards). Was supposed to go on wednesday, then changed it to sunday, then realized the piercing studio would be closed saturday and sunday and changed it to thursday. Good thing I'm so consistent in my planning! :P

Now I just hope I'll finish everything here fast so I can go home without being stressed out or worrying about having to get back here and do some more packing. Well, break's over, time to continue packing. Yay friday...

Boxes

I'm back at the place where I used to live and where some of my stuff still lives. ^^ This week will be all about packing as much of it as possible and clear out some space. I decided to dedicate wednesday to socialization, to catch a break from sorting and packing stuff, so I'm gonna go shopping and then meet up with some friends. I'll be shopping for new computer games, Magic cards (Magic: The Gathering) and some piercing jewellry.

Right now there are lots of boxes filled with my stuff, and they are everywhere. It's amazing how much junk a person can collect in their life.. I still have plenty of stuff to pack and store and I'll be happy when it's all over. So much for spring break.. I won't get much rest, but I might quite possibly break some bones, some stuff or something else before I'm done here.. :P

Bus ride

So far, I've been travelling for roughly seven hours straight and I still have about thirty more minutes to travel, before I can get off this bus and see my friend, who's coming to meet me. We haven't seen eachother since since last year, so it'll be fun to meet up and hang out again. And probably play some Magic. ^^

Flappy bird

I downloaded "Flappy bird" on my cell phone two days ago and I'm still stuck on score 13. It's a frustrating but fun game and I'm pretty sure I will spend a lot of time on it this week, especially on friday when I'm going to travel by bus for six and a half hours.. That should give me enough time to set a new highscore, even if it's just increased by one point.

Bluetooth and hardware

Monday and as usual, computer classes all day. Today's topic: Hardware. Started with some talk about software tho, and currently discussing IR, WiFi & Bluetooth. Earlier there was a photoshop class, where I was working on a poster. Haven't decided which type of poster yet, but probably a movie or game poster. This is also the last week before our break from school, which will last for a week. Going to travel back to where I used to live, again, and pack up some stuff that's left there.

Hearthstone

A week ago I started playing "Hearthstone", a Blizzard card game which you play online. Since I play "Magic: The Gathering" IRL, it's fun to have a game of the same concept to play online. I usually ALWAYS play a druid-type character in every game where you choose a class, but in this game I've mostly focused on the priest Anduin so far. The cards available in the priest deck suits me quite well, even tho I enjoy playing the other characters sometimes too.

This will be a very calm and sloppy weekend for me. Managed to get a sprained ankle on thursday.. TWICE.. So my foot is quite useless at the moment. Went shopping yesterday and finished the evening with burgers and movies. Tonight's a bit different: Pizza and movies :P And ofc some gaming too :) I think tonight will be another Hearthstone evening, but I will most likely fit another game in there somewhere as well, this weekend.

Moday

A new day, a new week. Currently in a computer class, talking about a very small computer, named "Raspberry Pi". My teacher owns one, which he brought to class. Kinda cool!

The weekend was the longest weekend in a very long time! Went out on friday, but started off with some drinking at home with some friends. After that, we went to town and didn't get in to the place we planned to go to, cause one of us were too drunk. Went to the pub O'Learys instead, got us a drink, danced a bit and then everything went crazy. Two people disappeared, one had to go to the hospital, none could be reached by phone, and I went home early. I never get hungover, but the entire saturday and sunday was spent indoors, watching movies, dreading the monday.

Now the teacher moved on to talking about "Remote Wake-On-Lan", which is pretty nifty.

Ah, finally time to plug in the Raspberry Pi and see it in action, looking forward to the demonstration!
The rest of the day will be spent in computer classes, as every other monday, which is fun most of the time.

New week

A new week has started! Nothing special on my schedule this week.
Once again I'm in my Photoshop class, working with panorama pictures. Today I only have computer classes so that should be fun. This evening I think I'll continue playing SC2. I spent the weekend playing and practising the game since it's been quite a while since I played it PvP mode. I play Protoss as my main race, but try the other ones sometimes too. Anyways - back to class, working on those epic pictures!

Back to school again

So I haven't been here for a while now, and a few things have happened. First off, in december I started playing WoW again. I started level a tauren druid on a new server where a friend of mine plays. I didn't play as much as I hoped I would though and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep playing or wait a while before I refill my subscription. Then we had a christmas break from school so I traveled back to where I used to live, to pack up some of my stuff that's still there. I didn't play much when I was there, just a few minor games at Kongregate. After that, I went back home and spent the rest of the break socializing and playing, mostly Path of Exile (reminds a bit about Diablo 3).
Now, school has started and I'm currently working on a picture in my Photoshop class. After the coffee break I have another computer class and will work on an assignment in PHP/MySQL.
It's good to be back home, but I wouldn't complain if I could get another week off. ^^

Two days ago I randomly opened SC2 and played some AI games. Think I will start playing that again, it's been quite a while.
